Captain

The captain or master is the ship's highest responsible officer, acting on behalf of the ship's owner.

Responsibilities

  • Legally responsible for the day-to-day affairs of the ship
  • Ensure that all the departments under him perform legally to the requirements of the ship's owner

Chief Officer

Chief Officer is the head of the deck department on a merchant vessel, second-in-command after the ship's master.

Responsibilities

  • Vessel's cargo operations, its stability, and supervising the deck crew
  • Responsible for the safety and security of the ship, as well as the welfare of the crew on board
  • Trains the crew and cadets on various aspects like safety, firefighting, search and rescue, and various other contingencies

Second Officer -- Mualim II

Second Officer is in charge of navigation and is the next licensed position below Chief officer as third-in-command, after the Captain and Chief Officer

Chief Engineer -- KKM

Chief Engineer is the official title of someone qualified to oversee the engine department.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all operations and maintenance that have to do with all engineering equipment throughout the ship

First Assistant Engineer -- Masinis I

First assistant engineer is the officer responsible for supervising the daily maintenance and operation of the engine department. He or she reports directly to the chief engineer.

Second Assistant Engineer -- Masinis II

Second assistant engineer is junior to the Second Engineer/First Assistant Engineer in the engine department.

Able Bodied Seaman -- AB

An Able Bodied Seaman is an officer under training and might work as dayworker or engineer assistant.

Responsibilities

  • Observe and learn, while helping out where possible
  • Assist one of the qualified officers to hold a watch or carry out other tasks

Oiler

An Oiler main job is to oil machineries and reports to the second engineer.

Cook

The Cook plan and prepare meals.

Responsibilities

  • Determines timing and sequence of operations required to meet serving times
  • inspects galley and equipment for cleanliness and proper storage and preparation of food
